Water Conservation
Our country being a monsoon land is having a short period of about three to four months of rainfall. Thus, water conservation in India is must to complete the scarce surface water supply for the greater part of the year. This process of water conservation in our country is done because of less water resources which include rainy, ground, sea, pond and river water in it. Thus, to improve and to make better water facilities for water supply, government issued numerous of soil and water conservation plans for it.
National water budget of India is one of the means of water conservation in India. Water transportation also contributes a bigger part of the duty in water conservation. This method of water conservation with transportation is prevailing in India since the ancient times. Canals in India have a potential of transportation up to 4300kms and it could be only possible with soil and water conservation. Other projects like Multi-Purpose river valley projects also contribute with a bigger hand in soil and water conservation. These projects are known as the major and the important most steps taken toward water conservation in India. Generation of electricity, helping transportation, development of fishery, source of irrigations and control over flood are some of the merits of these steps of water conservation. Main motive behind these soil and water conservation is to make control over flood circumstances. Electricity production is done through these projects of water conservation in India. Irrigation for our farms during dry season is done through these water conservation projects.
Apart form it, supply of electricity to various sectors of service, development of fishing culture, plantation by side of these projects helps in increasing area under forest. Soil and water conservation also can be done through making dams on rivers. These projects include the Damodar Valley Project, The Bhakra Nangal Project, The Hirakud Dam and The Nagarjuna Sagar Project in it. Except these water conservation in India, production of hydro power in India is also done with these projects. Rihand Dam Project, Koyna Project, Sharavathy Project, Kundoh Project Sajbarigiri Project and Balimela Projcet are some of the major hydro electric power projects of our country.
